‘angels do fly’ or ‘they told me’ timothy r gates, 8/16/2010

'the heavens, they proclaim
God,'
they told me in my youth.
'angels watch over
children, fools and the ignorant,'
and,
‘drunks,’
another thing they told me.
they also told me,
'black people are fine in their place,
and,
'the poor are just too lazy to get a better job.'
(some things have not changed)
angels do fly, not necessarily obvious
angels do fly, halos bent or lost
angels do fly, fallen to the ground –
on days when I’m content with the nebulous,
I tag along.
