'saying goodbye to loved ones' & 'my heart's song'

'saying goodbye to loved ones' timothy r gates, 2/13,2011

i know summers don't remain

fall's lovely hues give way to repose

winter's dirge sparkles

i know spring comes

yet there is no pain like a broken heart

no pain like feeling left behind

no pain like waking up, and they're, still, not here

i don't know permanence

don't know omnipotence

don't know joylessness

but, damn, it hurt, sometimes, not seeing your

face

then i pause, recline, and

somehow am happy for your blessed

repose.

and this remains the same for all those we love, time and space knows it only for the moment:

'my heart's song' timothy r gates, 2/13/2011, for my eldest daughter and grandaughter v-day 2011

nearly jumped up through my
mouth
nearly jumped out of my
...skin
near your mother's eyes, thought,
'my, they're the same'
nearly went crazy, anticipating her,
'yes'
nearly went crazy, fearing another day's,
'no'
near your mother's sleeping eyes, thought,
'i can see us running through the woods'
my heart's song, i've
sung
my heart's song, i've
rewritten
my heart's song, i've seen three
times.

thank you for the song. love dad, and love, grandpa
