'Retail during the hol-i-days'

'Retail during the hol-i-days' timothy r gates, 11/29/2010

Folks of varying hues
affectations galore
no ventriloquist
what keeps impressionists busy,
stand-up comics too.
First thought,
'Jesus loves the little children...'
But then they come in
you immediately feel the energy pull,
those ten percenters,
sweat shop bosses
field foremen,
finding some way to summon,
pissed at your lack of
vertical ascent
and
horizontal attentiveness, followed by,
'I deserve to be served now?'
Here's the evolutionary blip,
the missing link,
perhaps the interspecies dilemma,
the difference between:
'How much is the dogie in the window?'
or
'Gimme that dogie, now! It's mine!' –
Young person, would've been institutionalized in my youth,
interrupts my aggravation, smiling,
'Sir, thank you for helping me.'

'march, march, march'

'march, march, march' timothy r gates, 11/19/2010

march, march, march

matters not to what tune

lock-step, high-step, another-step

wave that flag back and forth

anthems, one and all

follow blind-justice,

weigh the balance

find all wanting -

i raise my trombone

grab my guitar

only to sing an old song,

one i thought was new:

it's my right to do what i want!

problem?

the same song is being sung on the other hill.

'happy tears – friend'

'happy tears – friend' timothy r gates, 11/17/2010

'jesus loves you,'
heard it, sang it, chanted it
a small boy, closeted by,
'this hurts me more than you'

'ashes to ashes,'
memory eternal, is eternal
grandpa truly loved me -
hear this, sing it, chant it

'love never fails,'
except when followed by a slap
like a G-D who honors free-will
'takes no pleasure' in it,
but still damns forever –
glad that Grandpas and Grandmas aren't like this

'a friend covers a multitude of sins,'
happy tears baptize yesterday
bottled from well-wishers
dervishes transformed –
damn, i love your whisper,
but the smile hurts my face sometimes.

'heart's rhythms'

'heart's rhythms' timothy r gates, 11/14/2010

heart's rhythms
sing
recline in silence
nearly kills my peace
that still small voice
not known, desired
then - pause, breathe, listen
preying reposed
praying aroused
don't know what's the sound
know this:
love this song

'fluttering fairies' or 'gnostic delights'

'fluttering fairies' or 'gnostic delights' timothy r gates, 11/09/2010

little word
a whisper
i don't tell people
everything i hear
i certainly don't tell them
everything i think
i'm glad they don't either.
out of the whirlwind,
a still small voice,
scares the hell out me.
Jumped!
fluttering fairies
dive bombing impish angels
if i'm the only one,
one to see them,
i'll quietly hum,
'gnostic delights, in flight,'
and not tell anyone
what i think
I see
what i think
I hear.

'amorous intercession

'amorous intercession' timothy r gates, 11/06/2010

into the night
in the day
out of blight
out of delight
we say
dare we affirm
we love the night
'the evening and the morning,
this was the first day'
vespers' matins
nocturne candles
your incense brings a prostration
willing aggravation
tension's blessed repose
here, an amorous intercession,
intermittently, whispered,
'lord, have mercy.'
