'we knew each other as friends'

'we knew each other as friends'             timothy r gates, 7/22/2013

Daryl was my friend
at four.
we found out,
maybe around six,
we were not of the same
"race."
the day before they told us,
a second before,
we only knew each other as
friends.
MLK's dream
John's Imagine
Jesus' Kosmos loved,
we knew this truth.
on that dreadful day
of revelation
my friend
became
"coloured"
and i, his friend,
became
"white."
we knew
we were not the same.
i was tim
my friend was Daryl.

'Refection on Daryl, a friend'             trgates, 7/22/2013

Imagine
Dream
Kosmos loved.
i behold the womb,
out of chaos we peek through,
we see,
and we continue to
as long as we do not allow another's shades
to prevent knowing
what we knew within.
A friend is merely a friend.

'Love and claims on it'

'Love and claims on it'                   timothy r gates, 7/7/2013
God died.
Mother, a few of her friends
and a young John,
the rest hung with
Judas,
just without a noose.
People die.
Immediately
love and claims on it
smother a blessed repose.
Love dies not,
yet is cremated
in applause or accusations,
tears of shame
chooses to blanket
indiscreet fingers.
Proverb, "no greater
love
is there than a friend
laying down their life."
Love has no need.
