anytime, during the posted times

poll booths were open,

as it was said,

to those the government wanted to be free.

Used to be free to

prey

anytime of the day, night

doors weren't locked,

windows open most of the year,

as it was said,

it's safe.

Used to be free to

gloat

anytime, whenever you thought the other unworthy

institutions preyed upon the need to be right,

as it is said,

if it feels good, well...

Used to be is never free.

A mirror,

looking dimly through a

window's lens,

shadows and glimpses

only photos and words

clearer than those

face to face,

those walking closer

presuming to be friends.

I gaze into the mirror

wiping away the fog,

the smear,

smiling, you're in their

reflection -

trouble with Icons,

they're not the thing,

they only point to it.

I pray for flight

NRA cloaking;

One, Bible toting

Redemption cloaking.

What did we learn?

Multitaskers, file thieves,

now are awe inspiring; next

WMD War proliferators; followed by

12-step needing Drone bombing senders

are now applauded

by either side,

who claim to not have voted the way they voted. -----

Today there'd be no need of,

“I'm not a crook!'

Today no one would've lost their jobs.
